OVUNET FAQs

OVUNET frequently asked questions.

Getting Started

  • Why am I not ovulating?

When a woman is not ovulating, it is usually due to an imbalance of the hormones from the pituitary, which stimulate the ovary to release eggs. PCOS is a very common reason for hormone imbalance, as well as thyroid, or weight problems. Your initial OVUNET blood and ultrasound investigations will help to identify any causes for you not ovulating. Sometimes ovulation is happening, but not all that often.

  • I’m already seeing a Fertility Specialist. Can I use OVUNET?

Please discuss this with your Specialist, as not everyone is suitable to use OVUNET.  Your Specialist may already be an Authorised OVUNET Voucher provider. In that case, if you are suitable, they will  provide you with a treatment voucher, (there will be a fee to you for this).

  • Why should I use OVUNET for my fertility care?

OVUNET is a convenient, safe, and effective way of you starting fertility treatment when you wish to start. When you use OVUNET, Real Fertility Specialists assess your information, review your investigations, and advise you about the best Ovulation induction plan through Telehealth. With Ovunet, you take control of your fertility care.

  • How long should I wait before starting Ovunet?

It is up to you when you start using OVUNET.  If you are under 32 years of age, with patience you may achieve a pregnancy with no help at all. If you have been trying for a pregnancy for a couple of months, and have irregular periods, you may not be ovulating and should consider using OVUNET.

  • Is OVUNET for me?

OVUNET is safe, convenient and effective. It is suitable for most women to use. During your sign up session, OVUNET will ask you important questions to help assess if OVUNET is for you.

Some people, who have complex health issues are better off seeing a fertility Specialist face to face.

  • What can my Partner do to help us get pregnant?

Your partner should avoid smoking and excessive alcohol, maintain a healthy bodyweight, and ensure a healthy diet, including eating seafood once or twice per week. Having sex 2-3 times per week is important, and good for a healthy relationship.

  • What can I do to help get ovulating?

Ovulation requires a delicate balance of hormones from the pituitary gland. OVUNET may be required to achieve this. Trying to optimise BMI, having a healthy diet, and reducing stress are good ways to increase the effectiveness of OVUNET, or leading to ovulation without treatment.

  • How soon can I start using OVUNET?

With OVUNET, you take control of your fertility! If you’ve been trying just a couple of months, OVUNET can ensure you are ovulating, tell you when to try to conceive, and increase your chances of getting pregnant

How OVUNET Works

  • How does Ovulation Induction (OI) work?

Ovulation induction works by using medications to stimulate the release of hormones in the correct balance to cause ovulation. For more information, watch this video.

  • How successful is OI?

The success of ovulation induction depends on a woman’s age, and the cause of not ovulating in the first place. When Ovulation occurs, the likelihood of conceiving can be as high as 25% per cycle. This is the general, background, natural pregnancy rate per cycle in a healthy couple. The likelihood of conceiving using OVUNET is under 20% per cycle.. You may require up to 4 OVUNET cycles to really know if Ovulation induction is going to work for you.

  • Should I have IVF right now?

If you have been trying to conceive for some time without success, there are a number of fertility treatment options. If you use OVUNET for 4-5 treatment cycles, and have no success, OVUNET will suggest a consultation with your own, or one of our Specialists to discuss the next step, which may be IVF.

  • I’m using home insemination to conceive; can I use OVUNET?

Absolutely! In general, we suggest having donor insemination through a registered fertility clinic, such as Ballarat IVF, but for many people this is not their preferred option.

OVUNET is a perfect addition for people doing home insemination to increase their chances of ovulation, and timing of insemination episodes.

Medications

  • Are OVUNET medications safe?

The medications which OVUNET Fertility specialists prescribe to provide ovulation induction have been used extensively in Australia and across the world. They are perfectly safe to use, and there is no evidence  that, except for rare cases of allergy, they cause any harm. If you think you may have an allergy to any of the drugs prescribed, don’t take them, and request a telemedicine consultation with an OVUNET specialist.

  • What is Provera (medroxyprogesterone)

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is a safe form of progestogen, or artificial progesterone. During ovulation induction, it is used to induce a menstrual cycle, so that you can start taking letrozole. If you have long menstrual cycles we may ask you,  via OVUNET to commence taking Provera.

  • When do I use Provera

Only use Provera when directly instructed by us through OVUNET. Most people wont need to use Provera during Ovulation induction.

  • Do I need to fill my Provera script?

If you have menstrual cycle lengths of up 35 days, you may wish to save money, and just hold on to your Provera script. You may, however be asked to start Provera, and that will be required on the same day. So ask if your pharmacist has it in stock, (most do).

  • How does Letrozole work?

Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor, and works by reducing oestrogen levels for a short period of time. This causes an increase in gonadotrophins, hormones released from the pituitary gland. These hormones then stimulate the ovary to release an egg.

  • Why do I need to have a trigger injection?

The trigger injection is a hormone, chorionic gonadotrophin. Using a trigger injection during ovulation induction stimulates the final stage of egg (oocyte) development, and causes ovulation (release of the egg). The trigger injection also stimulates the ovary to release progesterone, which supports the implanting embryo.

Investigations and Monitoring

  • Why do I need Ultrasound monitoring when using OVUNET?

It is crucial for OVUNET staff to know how you have responded to treatment. Ultrasound is the only way to do this. Ultrasound monitoring of your response to treatment will allow OVUNET staff to give you advice about the risks of multiple pregnancy, and the steps to avoid, or accept this risk.

  • I need to have my ultrasound, but can’t get an appointment, what do I do?

Don’t worry, just email your Ovunet Nurse , ovunet@ovunetfertility.com, and they will guide you.

  • What does LH testing do?

When you test your urine in the morning, the test will tell us if you have had a surge of the LH hormone overnight. LH is removed from the body through the kidneys, and it is detected in the urine. A positive test tells us that you will produce an egg in the next 36 to 48 hours. LH starts off the ovulatory process.

  • Why do I need a progesterone blood test?

After an egg is released from your ovary, the progesterone in your blood increases over the next week. OVUNET will ask you to have a blood test to assess your progesterone level. This level will confirm if ovulation has occurred, and will be used by OVUNET to determine any changes in the treatment in the next cycle, if needed.

  • I’ve had my progesterone blood test. What’s next?

The results of your progesterone test will be entered into OVUNET by our nurses. The results will be used to plan any further OVUNET treatment cycles you may need.

There is no need to call for the results. We will let you know at the end of the cycle.

  • What if I’m Pregnant already?

If you think you might be pregnant, do a pregnancy test. If you are not having an OVUNET treatment cycle, please contact your GP, request an OVUNET fertility Specialist Telehealth consultation or see your  own Obstetrician.  We will ask you to perform a pregnancy test at various stages during your OVUNET treatment cycle, so please follow those instructions.

Payment

  • I have a voucher, what's next?

If you have a voucher, this means you can use the voucher to avoid further payments for your OVUNET treatment cycle. Enter your voucher code whenever you are asked to pay
.

If this is your first treatment cycle, you need to add your voucher code to bypass initial investigations, (as you’ve already had them), and to access the treatment cycle for no additional payment. So, in your first OVUNET cycle, you need to add the voucher code twice.

If this is your second, or subsequent cycle, you only add your new voucher code once, at the start of the treatment. It’s  simple, so give it a go!

  • How do I pay for Ovunet?

You can pay for your OVUNET treatment cycle directly from your OVUNET App home page via Stripe, or by using a voucher that you have purchased from a fertility Specialist.

If you have a voucher, whenever you are asked to pay, select the voucher option and enter the code. Vouchers are NOT free , and cover one treatment cycle only.

  • I’m in Pain - what happens now?
